Precautions for International Students regarding the Measles Outbreak.

Dear International Students,

With the increasing number of measles cases worldwide, it is imperative to adhere to preventive measures to minimize the risk of infection. Below are essential guidelines to follow;

Understanding Measles

Measles is a highly contagious infectious disease transmitted through droplets in the air, often through coughing or sneezing. It is characterized by the appearance of an erythematous rash on the back of the neck, below the ears, torso, limbs, hands, and soles following an incubation period, typically lasting 7 to 21 days.

Preventive Measures

Before the Trip -

Ensure Vaccination: Verify whether you have received both doses of the measles vaccine (MMR). If you have not received both doses or are uncertain about your vaccination status, schedule a visit to a medical institution 4 to 6 weeks before departure to receive the required doses, with a 4-week interval between each dose.

While Traveling -

Maintain Personal Hygiene: Practice personal hygiene measures, including wearing a mask in crowded places, frequent handwashing, and adhering to proper cough etiquette to minimize the risk of transmission.

Upon Entry -

Notify Quarantine Officers: If you experience symptoms such as fever or rash upon entry, promptly inform the quarantine officer for appropriate measures.

Visiting a Medical Facility

In the event of seeking medical assistance:

1. Wear a Mask: Wear a mask and limit contact with others when visiting a medical facility.

2. Inform Medical Staff: Inform the medical staff of your recent overseas travel history for proper assessment and care.

Your health and well-being are of utmost importance to us. By following these preventive measures, we can collectively contribute to maintaining a safe and healthy environment within our university.
